Stockholm's first inner city block in wood

08.06.2020 - 07:00

Veidekke will, on behalf of Folkhem, begin construction of the first block in Cederhusen, which is intended to be Sweden's largest residential block in solid wood. The project is a turnkey contract in collaboration that is divided into two where the contract sum for the first part is approximately SEK 140 million. The first apartments in the project are expected to be ready for occupancy in early 2022.

- It is of course an extremely important milestone for the project that we have now decided on the start of construction and that means that we finally get started for real. It is a unique project in both a national and international perspective and it is something that we have really noticed in the great interest from the market. We look forward to feeling the smell of wood spread over Hagastaden when the wooden frame in ten floors is erected, says Anna Ervast Öberg, responsible for project development Cederhusen.

The cedar houses will consist of two residential blocks, where the Bologna block is first out. The first house in the neighborhood, with ten floors built of solid wood, will begin construction after the summer when the foundation is completely finished. The house will have a solid wood frame, with the exception of the lower two floors which are built in concrete, as well as a cedar facade. Major advantages of building wooden houses are that they bind carbon dioxide, are light and quieter - both to build and to live in.

- It feels very exciting to start building this fantastic project. I am convinced that with good cooperation and an involving way of working together, we will create a new landmark for Stockholm, says David Grimheden, regional manager for Veidekke Trähus.

The two residential blocks that Cederhusen contains in total will be built near the new metro entrance in Hagastaden and will consist of a total of four residential buildings that house 234 apartments. The houses in the block will be 10-13 storeys high and they will be built on top of the tunnels for E4 / E20. The apartments that are being built have a living area of 25-202 sqm which is divided into 1-8 rooms and a kitchen, with varying floor plans in the different houses. The homes have a consistent classic Scandinavian design, characterized by craftsmanship and genuine materials, with wooden details that recur in the interior.
